I recently read an article exploring the concept of transhumanism, which seeks to use science to escape the limitations of the human body and achieve eternal life. But I wonder, is it a pursuit of eternal wisdom and creation or something more hedonistic? This reminded me of a story by Robert Bloch called “That Hell-bound Train.”
First reading this story over a decade ago, I took it at face value. Bloch was one of the great twentieth century pulp writers. “That Hell-bound Train” is a modern fable, a ripping good yarn. But there’s more to this story than meets the eye.
